Why sleep matters so much

Direct answer: During deep sleep (N3 phases) there is the highest growth hormone (GH) peak, cortisol regulation, tissue repair and elevated protein synthesis. REM sleep consolidates motor learning — exercise technique is recorded during sleep. Chronic deprivation reduces all of this.
